Criteria for Selection of Judges for Indiana State Championships and recommendations for Regional, Easterns, Nationals​

​It is our goal as a Committee to have our best judges on the floor representing the state of Indiana. The Committee will select judges that have shown leadership in our state and region by actively judging both Development Program and Xcel Program events, volunteering at state and regional events, and by having a positive relationship with the gymnastics community.

Authority:

  • As per the National Rules & Policies, individual states may determine their own process for selection of officials to State Championships.

  • The State Administrative Committee (SAC) selects the Meet Referee and officials for the State Championships.

  • There is not a minimum/maximum number of State Championships assignments for each official.

  • Questions regarding State Meet Assignments should be directed to the SACC.

 

Eligibility:

  • Must hold USAG Professional Membership and NAWGJ membership and be in good standing with both organizations

  • Must complete and submit Personal Involvement Form (PIF) by the deadline 

  • Must complete and submit CPE documentation to the State CPE Coordinator 

  • Must pass judging exams and hold the appropriate rating 


Qualities for consideration:

  • Judges who are actively judging and prioritizing USAG sanctioned events both within in our state and region

  • Judges who are actively investing in the success and development of our state and region by volunteering at state and regional events (meets, clinics, training camps, etc.)

  • Judges who prioritize continuing education and attend clinics, camps, symposia, congresses, etc. 

  • Judges who are dedicated to the advancement of Indiana gymnastics by  participating in in-gym observation and/or critiques with athletes and coaches

  • Judges with past State Championships experience and willingness to judge State Championships regardless of Level/Division

  • Judges who have established and maintain a positive rapport with Indiana professionals and athletes 

  • Judge rating and the time they have held their rating 

  • Judge availability and affiliation may also be taken into consideration but will also be handled by the assigning party

  • Judges who consistently demonstrate professionalism, consistency, and fair and unbiased scoring. More specifically: 

    • Knowledgeable 

      • The judge understands and applies the rules appropriately 

      • The judge correctly determines start values for routines 

      • The judge takes accurate and appropriate deductions

    • Accurate/Consistent

      • The judge evaluates each athlete in a fair and unbiased way

      • The judges ranks the athletes in the proper order

      • The judge maintains a fair range throughout the entire competition

    • Professional

      • The judge comes to meets prepared with their materials

      • The judge interacts respectfully and appropriately with coaches, volunteers, other judges, etc. 

      • The judge reports on time and remains on the floor until all athletes have finished competing 

      • The judge wears appropriate attire and presents themself as a professional

      • The judge is not on their cell phone or participating in other activities while they are on the field of play

    • Efficient 

      • The judge evaluates each routine in an acceptable amount of time 

      • The judge handles inquiries/video review in a timely manner 

    • Demeanor

      • The judge acknowledges each athlete at the beginning and end of each routine 

      • The judge makes athletes feel welcome with a positive and pleasant attitude 

      • The judge is approachable and pleasant with coaches and other judges
